Re: Cat food

Wet food diets are very commonly recommended. They better emulate natural eating habits, and tend to have higher meat/water content, so yes, wet food is almost always better for your cat. In the wild, cats get a good amount of water from their pray, as they eat the entire carcass and there is water in the blood. Cats therefore aren't inclined to naturally want to drink as much as they should, and kibble-only diets tend to result in dehydrated cats. Also, dry food tends to be more carbohydrate-heavy than wet food.

If you feed dry food, check your ingredients. Are the first two ingredients actual meat? No corn, no grains, no rice, or other nonsense. Actual meat (or meat by-product). If it isn't, then you are basically giving your cat candy that won't do anything besides make it fat and unhealthy. I recommend Origin cat food, but there are a number out there that have meat as the first two ingredients. (Note: Meow Mix and many other common kibbles are NOT included here)

You might consider mixing wet and dry food. Like, half a can of wet food in the morning and half at night, mixed with kibble. Or even just a spoonful. It's great for the cat and almost always healthier than dry food, and a good way for the cat to still get kibble if he or she is used to it.
