I had serious issues with The Punisher, specifically because of how it handled the gun violence issue, or at least tried to handle it with its sloppy side plot involving the pro-gun law senator. If it's going to handle such a sensitive topic so terribly it shouldn't have handled it at all, IMO, and kept the show as a ridiculous blood bath. I found the first episode fantastic and wish they'd kept the entire series like that, instead of throwing in a half-arsed 'let's examine gun control in our series about how cool it is to mow people down with a gun'.

Yes, the attempt at looking at PTSD and soldiers and tying it into the Punisher's masculinity was interesting but (as another OP has already written) was also a little clumsily done. Props for the show for showing the effects of war on soldiers, at least.

Also, OP, as is often said here on FS, just because a person disagrees with you, that doesn't mean that they are necessarily stupid. (Especially as your secret has me questioning your own intelligence.)

THIS. This show thinks it's so much smarter than it is, and it's the writing that hobbles it so badly. Jon Bernthal acts rings around everyone else and deserves serious praise, I'm not even sure he knows he's in the same show as everyone else, but some of the acting is terrible or so ott I cringe (why does Karen look like she has only two speeds? Close to tears or smirky arrogant), but the way they want people to think they're addressing a serious issue and then undermine it completely? Yet all the cast and showrunner kept trying to say in interviews after the premiere that the show isn't answering any the posed questions, which is utter bullshit. They answer the questions they're asking, they answer them right there on the screen, they're just hoping the audience is lol stupid enough to not notice.
