What happened last time? What happened last time is that Edward VIII was selfish as hell. Meghan isn't currently married to someone else and being pressured by the prince to get a divorce and marry him instead, which was the boat Wallis Simpson was in.

Not to mention that in general the world has gotten over the idea of divorce being a terrible, evil thing.

Wallis wasn't exactly reluctant to get that divorce and marry a prince, though? Probably because she didn't realize the royal family would cut her dead and not even bestow a title upon her.

Also, Harry is currently 5 back from the throne (Charles, William, George, Charlotte, Harry), rather than actually on it, like Edward was.

While the 'American divorcee' part is an amusing coincidence, Harry and Great Uncle Edward are not in even vaguely analogous situations.
