Speaking as somebody who spent six months this year rewatching every episode...yes, give it a shot. DS9 has amazing characters and supporting characters, and can get complex and dark without going too far. The phrase I used a lot in my reviews was "grey morality" and if you like that sort of thing, then you'll probably enjoy yourself. Also, with a few small exceptions, you don't really need to watch TNG to know what's going on, so you don't have to worry on that score.

That being said, I agree with other commenters that you might want to pick and choose the episodes you watch in seasons one and two, because it did take the show awhile to find its footing. But I'd highly recommend not skipping "Past Prologue", the episode after the pilot, because it's both a very solid story and introduces one of my all time favorite supporting characters. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Hope you give it a shot, and if you do, that you enjoy it!
