Dude, ok, you can have your opinions, but Spock/Kirk literally gave us a canon Vulcan word that means brother or lover to use with Spock and Kirk. Also

Capt. Kirk: They were humanitarians and statesmen, and they had a dream, a dream that became a reality and spread throughout the stars, a dream that made Mr. Spock and me brothers.
Garth: Mr. Spock, do you consider Capt. Kirk and yourself brothers?
Mr. Spock: Capt. Kirk speaks somewhat figuratively and with undue emotion; however, what he says is logical, and I do, in fact, agree with it.

Another character saying they're 'like a brother' is pretty much the biggest wink wink nod a show familiar with shipping can give you in regards to a slash ship. It means they are in love, but we're going to say it's platonic to appease the shippers. That's the problem with you young whippersnappers today, you forget fandom roots.

To appease the censors*

Eh, I'm a huge Sheith shipper and I would be overjoyed if it miraculously became canon, but I think you're reading too much into it. Not every instance of a male character saying that another male character they care about is "like a brother" to him is a reference to Spock/Kirk.

I'm not saying it would become canon, I'm just saying as an old-school slasher that scene read like it was slash fanservice. And for a team that's well aware of shipping culture, there's an excellent chance they put it in there on purpose knowing slash fans would pick up on it.

I mean I'm pretty sure no LGBT pairing is going to become canon because the team is subject to the Japanese parent company restrictions on what they can and can't do, so neither Sheith nor Klance ever had a chance of becoming canon. I think they just wanted to encourage fan shipping and didn't realize it would get so toxic.
