Who are some of the best video game villains?

Arthas is the best villain I've played against.

My favorite is probably Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. What a fucking nut.

Vaas from Far Cry 3. He was just so much fun. Also GLaDOS.

I have so many issues with Shadows of Mordor, but its take on Sauron is really good I think.

Even though I've never played the games, Alduin from Skyrim and Athros/Lych King from WOW sound awesome. The stories from what I've read are interesting.

Dagoth Ur blew my fucking mind when I first played Morrowind. It was like "woah this dude is going to let me just stand here and chat with him?" and it really reinforced the connection between you and Nerevar and Dagoth Ur and Vivec and the whole epic story. Are you his friend Nerevar, or not? Does it matter? gjklagagjkl;dgjk fucking Morrowind man.

Sephiroth, of course. Because I am secretly still a teenage boy. Plus, tragic backstory, cool outfit, cool sword. And he seems genuinely pretty nice pre-rampage.

Saren Arterius is super interesting. He's racist/speciesist (???) against humans and all your info at first points to him being evil because he hates humans and wants them to die. But then you find out that wasn't his plan at all, and suddenly his story becomes really fucking tragic? He's a space-racist who's going against his personal feelings about humanity, all to try and protect everyone. He's trying to do the right thing, even up to the end. Talking him down at the final battle is just... ;_; ;_; ;_;

Shit, I forgot about Dagoth Ur. Skyrim gets all the love these days and Morrowind needs more of it. I lived and breathed that game when I was a teen. :(

Arthas from WoW definitely, his story is great and it going through the strategy games up into the MMO where we finally vanquished him was great.

Handsome Jack from BL2 is pretty good, I mean he's such a sack of shit but I had so much fun hating him and enjoyed his death a lot.

All of the Reapers from The World Ends With You... They range from delightfully conniving and evil, to punchclock villainy, to actually arguably being the good guys. (And the player characters interact with the first group least.)

GLaDOS is a predictable, but there's a reason for that, dammit. A sexy, sexy reason.

*Caius. Damn you, autocorrect.

spoilers for FFXV

Genuinely love Ardyn from FFXV. What a fantastic villain. I love the shades of "he wasn't always like this" that in no way absolves him of the terrible shit he does, I love that he's petty and single-minded, I love that he actually has the charisma and balls to do the shit he sets out to do.

Like, it's not exactly his intention to destroy the world. It's just the easiest and best way to completely ruin the Lucis Caelum line. He wins. In the end, he gets literally everything he wants, and then gets to die, which he also wanted. Ten for ten, flawless victory.

I like him as a character but damn, is he ridiculously overdesigned.

Maybe because it's my first big favourite game series, and that on of my favourite Youtubers is playing it on livestreams, but I will have to say Sarevok and Irenicus from the Baldur's Gate games.

I liked that Throne of Bhaal allowed for Sarevok to be a playable teamate and potentially redeemable.

Also, I still greatly appreciate Loghain. I haven't read the tie-in novels that tell his backstory, but just in DA:O he has a fair bit of understandable motivation, which says somethign for how the game got across the backstory of the Orlesian occupation.
