Things that make you feel old

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-12-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
What things in your life make you feel old? How about anything that makes you feel young?

I've started doing this water aerobics class. It is a good work out, and my physical therapist suggested it because the pool makes exercise easier on my back and hip. But I'm the only person in that class under 60. It feels like such an old lady thing to do.

I also have memory issues. Every time I hear someone else complain about a bad memory, it is older people talking about it as a sign of aging. But I have a horrible memory and I'm only in my 30s.

lmao I just posted below about my lower back pain. It will get worse with age, despite all of my efforts. That makes me feel old.

Being in love makes me feel young. Same with noticing the difference in my skin after taking collagen pills for a month straight. If I look nice, I feel young

I felt old the first time I put my hand into a sink of cold, murky water to pull the plug without using a fork to try and get the plug out.

Surprisingly nothing really. I'm stuck in this weird place where I know I'm older, but I keep forgetting how old I am. Every once in a while I'll get reminded that there are people a hell of a lot younger than me who are adults with children now, but for me it's kinda "Oh, yeah that's a thing." I never FEEL old, or young, or anything really, and it's kind of weird to hear other people talk about it.

Christmas in general, because it makes me remember being that perfect age where you just get given stuff without being expected to buy anything in return and it was just a really happy (materialistic) time. Now I get stressed about having enough cash to buy everything for people and getting yelled at by customers who expect us to still have advent calendars in stock on December 7th.

Well, I am old. I have a denture which makes me so uncomfortable I refuse to wear it. I have little lady-hairs growing out of my chin. (I should pluck them or something, that's on me, but they're hard to see fortunately.)

Playing Pokemon makes me feel young, even though there are plenty of adults who play it.

Considering I'm about to turn 40... yeah, that's making me feel old.

Realizing that I'm older than most actors currently on popular TV shows.

That I don't really give a shit how old I am and rarely can remember without counting from my birth year.

Old - I worked until my body couldn't do it anymore, and retired... at 24 years of age. I have more in common with the elderly than my friends. It's weird as shit.

Young? Not really, but I do feel small and stupid when I try to make sense of paperwork and eligibility criteria for the pension. It's deliberate on their part to make it confusing, but knowing that doesn't make it easier.

Listening to all the songs I used to listen back in highschool in the radio station that is for old music. I've heard Gennie in a Bottle and All The Small Things along with Duran Duran's Ordinary World.

Watching Buffy with my 16-year-old niece and being asked frequently whether what she's seeing is an accurate representation of the hair/styles/etc of the time. Which it mostly is, at least in the area where I grew up. :P

It's been twenty years since Titanic was released.
The Cartoon Network is twenty-five years old. So is Aladdin.
George Michael's Faith is thirty years old.
USA Today and Disney's EPCOT are thirty-five.
Edward Furlong, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and James Van Der Beek are forty.
It's been fifty years since the Carol Burnett Show premiered (I wasn't born then, but I did watch it later).

I pulled a ligament in my lower back about 3 years ago from a hard fall. The pain is something I'll be dealing with for the rest of my life, but there are steps I take every day to make sure I have long-term support and/or it doesn't become as bad as it has the potential to:

-Pilates to keep my core and butt strong
-Yoga every day in the morning, before bed, and any time in between as needed.
-Never stay seated or in the same position for too long, especially since I have a bit of an anterior pelvic tilt.

When I'm in pain, I do what I can:
-Hot bath or shower, lay on electric heated blanket, place my hot waterbottle-bunny under where my back curves and have pillows placed where needed.
-I take Toredol for extreme pain.

I have been in extreme pain all week. I can't take Toredol every day because it can eat my stomach. Anything weaker than Toredol is basically candy, and stuff like A535 or Bengay isn't very effective.

Does anyone have any tips for lower back pain?

Characters you dislike in things you love

Finally found a new home for my rooster

(Anonymous) 2017-12-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
So I’ve posted about this before, but back in June I got baby chicks in the mail. I’d paid extra to have them sexed so they’d all be girls, but it’s not an exact science, and one turned out to be a rooster. Hens are legal where I am; roosters aren’t.

I dropped him off today at a local farm store that agreed to take him in and try to rehome him, but I’m scared because they used to offer classes on how to slaughter and clean chickens for meat. And, since roosters aren’t legal here, people who “adopt” roosters often eat them, use them as dogfight bait, or in cockfighting. I hope he finds a good home and has a long life there. I’ve had hens live to be 14 and one made it to 16, so I have a skewed view of what constitutes a long chicken life. Still. Good luck, Beetlejuice.

What was your worst theater experience?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Went to the movies today and a guy slept thru literally the WHOLE movie. With snoring. The people behind him kept kicking his chair. I have no idea why someone would go to a movie just to sleep for the whole thing.

As someone who's never watched Star Wars before, what makes Reylo so much worse than every other hero/villain ship, anyway?

I've heard people say stuff like, "you're racist if you pair her with the bad guy over her black friend", "you support abuse if you ship this", and so many other personal attacks towards their shippers to, like, a much greater extent than these types of pairings usually get. Is it just because the hero's a woman this time, or?
