I know things have changed, however
(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 01:48 am (UTC)(link)Considering the allegations against Masterson were made in March and only now is he being written out of The Ranch, well the second half of season 2 (the first half was already filmed), there was a more of a delay there.
But, I think this may have more to do momentum (the public actually paying more attention and speaking out against it, now) and possibly some good old fashioned misogyny (it's my impression that the men speaking out seem to have been believed pretty quickly while it took a while with the women), but yeah, some homophobia could be at play.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 02:01 am (UTC)(link)Do I think that Netflix is morally upright and legitimately concerned with its probity as a company? Not really. But I think it's simplistic to just say it's because of sexism or homophobia or what have you.
Re: I know things have changed, however
(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 09:28 am (UTC)(link)I think that sexism and homophobia both could be factors, but I think the momentum has a lot more to do with it. I do believe that without the Harvey Weinstein scandal and people finally believing that sexual assault and harassment happened and finally, finally being outraged by it, neither would have lost their jobs and the allegations would have been forgotten, like they have been so many times before. Spacey's allegations came out right on top of that and Masterson's had been on the back burner for a while at that point until it started getting more eyeballs on it in the wake of other scandals. I think it's about optics for Netflix right now, where before they were content to let it play out because the public wasn't paying attention.
Could Scientology be a factor? Sure. But you aren't going to get me to think it's more of one than a lot people not believing women when they accuse someone of rape, when, historically, that's exactly what has happened.
