I suspect in the long line of people who came before us genetically, there would be some who would be shocked, some appalled, some amazed, and some who think we're living a dream life of unimaginable sci fi goodness.

I feel like it would be difficult to anticipate what one's ancestors* would think, since if you go a few generations back, then you are looking at people with - potentially - very different values. Some of mine might think I'm a failure for being a 38 year-old woman who has no husband or kids, while others would be proud of me for having an education and a decent white-collar job. Then there's the ones who would be impressed that I live in a pace with running water...

*The ones you didn't know in life

Well, OP, how do you know you don't have ancestors who were just like you and are lovingly supporting you from the great beyond? I'm pretty different from most of my living relatives, but supposedly, I'm a lot like one of my great-great-grandmothers.

LOL, it always rang true for me, too. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I have relatives who'd love and support me from beyond the grave, but on the whole they're probably a very argumentative, opinionated bunch.

SHE GOT IT FROM YOUR SIDE OF THE FAMILY!

lmao calculating probabilities with the abacus

I can always recite the whole (loudest and shrillest) great-grand-aunt-or something -- "but your great great grandaughter had to be a CROSSDRESSA!"

oh, one of my favorite scenes.

I do love supportive and wonderful ancestors, but not everyone's family is is like that, so I do appreciate that they did have a family who fought a lot -- and more over, I almost want to say it was taking into consideration the fact that what Mulan did had a great possibility of shaming her family name -- and there are plenty of cultures in which certain actions could indeed cause familial shame, ruining the name, and prospects for the rest of the family (esp. in older times). Looking back it almost felt like Mulan wasn't the issue, it was her action -- "she got it from your side" and who was to blame for her poorly thought out actions.

We can't ALL be ACUPUNCTURISTS!

Same here, OP

Given that one of my great grandparents were part of the Klan, I don't think they would take too kindly to their great grandchild being a trans lesbian...
