I can always recite the whole (loudest and shrillest) great-grand-aunt-or something -- "but your great great grandaughter had to be a CROSSDRESSA!"

oh, one of my favorite scenes.

I do love supportive and wonderful ancestors, but not everyone's family is is like that, so I do appreciate that they did have a family who fought a lot -- and more over, I almost want to say it was taking into consideration the fact that what Mulan did had a great possibility of shaming her family name -- and there are plenty of cultures in which certain actions could indeed cause familial shame, ruining the name, and prospects for the rest of the family (esp. in older times). Looking back it almost felt like Mulan wasn't the issue, it was her action -- "she got it from your side" and who was to blame for her poorly thought out actions.
