Christmas gift help, FS?

[personal profile] syncing_feeling 2017-12-13 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Specifically, how to gift a download code in a creative way. My brother's coming to visit for Christmas and he's directed me to his Steam wishlist for gift ideas, but nearly all of the stuff on it is digital download only. I know the game itself is the gift but it just seems kind of boring to be there on Christmas morning going "I bought you a game, go check your Steam account!"

I'm stuck. :( I'm a crafts person so I'm toying with the idea of making some sort of scratchcard thing, since you can apparently make the silver stuff with paint and dish soap.

Buy him some socks and put a small card in the middle of each pair with the download codes. And don't tell him about them. So then you will know when/if he actually wears the socks.

That's a clever one! Thank you. :) I always wonder if some of my gifts ever actually get used or if they're just being polite, haha.

With very small items like that, I'm fond of the box inside a bigger box inside a bigger box etc. It's really fun opening everything and finding that it's boxes all the way down.

For extra fun, cover some of the boxes with duct tape. I mean...FULLY. COVER.

Haha, nice one! Like Russian dolls? With his sense of humour he'd really enjoy something like that.

You could make a really fancy card or booklet and put the code in that.

Maybe buy him some small gift like candy or something and wrap the code together with that.

Yeah, I was thinking of maybe slipping it into his card or something. Would be a cool sneaky way of doing it! Thank you. :)

I once wrapped a package of Ramen with a gift card taped to the bottom of it.

If you can afford it, look for a cheap piece of merch related to that game (a sticker pack, coffee mug, hat, whatever) and wrap that with a note inside?

Thank you! That would work really well. One of the games is Sonic Mania and I remembered he had this cool heat change mug with Sonic on it when we were kids, and he cried for days when it got broken. Might try and track it down if it's still out there!

Aww that would be really sweet. Good luck tracking it down!

How creative?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Scavenger hunt?
Make a cipher?
Digital scrolling message?
Have a light for him turn on that projects the code?
Make a game out of it - like one of those The Price Is Right games?
Make one of those folded paper fortune teller things like we used to do in school?

These are all excellent, thank you. :) He loves codes so the cipher one would be great.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. Hope you enjoy constructing it and he enjoys figuring it out.
