... Why is that difficult for you to comprehend? It's often easier to be more invested in a lead you are romantically interested in (whether you imagine yourself with that character, or wank to the idea of that character with another character). Sometimes, the plot isn't enough to sell it to you, but the characters can.

...or you can just...relate to the character? Or like the character /without/ wanting to fuck them? I've literally never been invested in a show by virtue of fuckability alone.

Why do you get to tell people why they are allowed or not allowed to enjoy something? I absolutely do not relate to every protagonist I like, regardless of whether or not I want to fuck them. Nor do I particularly think I need to. It is perfectly okay to be attracted to characters. I mean good for you, I guess, for being too self-important to not enjoy something for aesthetic or romantic reasons, but your reasons aren't any more important than OP's. People don't need to write a thesis on why they do, or don't, enjoy something they watch for fun.
