I'd rather have a Force villain (like, strictly Force, not like Vader being nearly the head of the Empire) be prominent in one of the new trilogies.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)OTOH, I think it's paralleling real life in a way. You thought you defeated the bad guy and were moving forward but you became complacent and now they're back again. You have to really root it out and keep at it or it comes back. Which is depressing but true. It's nice to see media addressing that (and hopefully giving the message that you can still win in the end - crossing fingers for Ep 9).
Shallowly, I like that they can use modern CGI for battles with the old-type tech like AT-ATs and Star Destroyers, so I'll take it as a win overall.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-14 01:22 am (UTC)(link)a) there's always going to be a new villain popping up
a.1) for plot reasons
a.2) there is always a contrarian force to anything. Even the Force itself can be used, manipulated in ways that are for the Light/Dark
b) it would be interesting to see the villains perspective -- various villains. Snoke wants power. Do any of the villains actually believe what they're doing is right? I'd like to see that
I'm not surprised. And sure it feels kinda cheap, but the "Next Big Bad" is always around the corner. Each generation has to fight their own battle.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-14 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)I definitely get that vibe from Hux, but -- and maybe I'm imagining this and need to rewatch TFA -- he also wants power/sometimes appears distrustful of the Force users/does he ever doubt very regime he is a part of? I'm not deluded enough to think he'd turn tail just because he "saw the light", but it'd be interesting if there was a momentary lapse of judgement on his part. Or maybe I've just been reading too much fic, lol.
