I go in circles on this. OTOH, I agree. The thing that bothers me the most about the new movies (especially Rogue One) is the loss of the hard good/evil dynamic. I don't go to SW for grey morality. I have other media for that. And part of the good/evil dynamic is an unequivocal win for the good guys.

OTOH, I think it's paralleling real life in a way. You thought you defeated the bad guy and were moving forward but you became complacent and now they're back again. You have to really root it out and keep at it or it comes back. Which is depressing but true. It's nice to see media addressing that (and hopefully giving the message that you can still win in the end - crossing fingers for Ep 9).

Shallowly, I like that they can use modern CGI for battles with the old-type tech like AT-ATs and Star Destroyers, so I'll take it as a win overall.
