The kind of hate some pop/rock stars get never fails to mystify me. Why do people care so much?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-15 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, there it is... Daring to suggest that there might possibly be more badass women out there than Taylor Swift is "hate".

(Anonymous) 2017-12-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people characterize anything less than gushing squee as "hate"? Like seriously. This isn't even mild criticism or faint snark, never mind HATE.

I blame Tumblr.

I agree. I mean, I don't think Taylor Swift is the "baddest bitch" out there. But she's objectively damn powerful and crazy successful, and I see nothing wrong with someone wanting to have their fannish squee over her (or most other celebs, for that matter). The fan's phrasing was unfortunate, but they also clearly weren't being literal. They were just using slang and hyperbole the way people do all the time on the internet.

The fact that so many people took actual pleasure in burying this person's idol in an avalanche of women they'd personally deemed "badder bitches than Taylor Swift" just seems pointlessly unpleasant. I don't like Rihanna, myself, but I would never respond to someone's "Name a badder bitch that Rih rih" post with "Marie Curie, a 19th century scientist. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person to win one twice." Like, why rain on their parade that way? Just to be contrary? Just to take the opportunity to knock their fave a little because she's not my fave too? I don't get it.

Okay!

I agree so much. I mean, I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan (she's okay?) but I don't really get why go to the lengths of making a giant meme out of someone's random twitter post.

Although learning about the women people brought up is also pretty interesting. I just wish it had been done a bit less... mean-spirited?

"I don't really get why go to the lengths of making a giant meme out of someone's random twitter post"

... that's not how memes work? Like... people don't put a huge amount of effort into making something go viral like that. A meme is the internet equivalent of a one-liner. Lots and lots of people are putting two seconds of thought into it, and they're doing so independently, not via committee.
