Hoo boy.

Well... yeah... but, it was super worth getting to see Mark Hamill show his acting chops, and he looked better than he has in years. <3

I don't think they ruined him at all. Just made it more evident that he is still human, Jedi or not.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

Nothing to worry about, OP. They haven't ruined him. He's more mature and complex but still ultimately Luke.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Luke is a badass, a failure, a hero, and an atoner. I loved everything about Luke in TLJ.

Gonna admit (yes i can admit, thanks) that movie wasn't as bad as I thought going in. And yeah, Luke wasn't that bad. I still think ONE ASPECT was OOC for him, but otherwise...nah he was fine.

Which aspect?

(me personally, I think the characterization went back and forth on whether I thought it was OOC or not depending on the scene)

I can't log in because I have forgotten my password.

But it was the fear fueled weakness he showed when he nearly tried to kill Kylo.

That's so...OOC to what we saw on Empire and Jedi.

Ah yes. While I liked (for a given value of) that they gave us a plausible reason for Kylo to go off the rails (though it doesn't explain how he got there in the first place) you're right that it didn't seem right for Luke. Mr. "I know my father has murdered thousands and thousands of innocent people but I know there's good in him somewhere and I'm going to save him" Skywalker. That guy.

I mean okay, a couple decades passed between RotJ and Luke's school getting burned down so I suppose theoretically something could've happened to change that part of him. But it would've had to have been something MAJOR that we've seen no hint of to make it even remotely believable and that's not the kind of thing you can leave out of showing us, the audience.

In perilous danger of rambling too much here so I'll stop. :)

Yeah, which aspect?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
See I think that one aspect was very in character. Luke's impulsive, and he's very motivated by emotion. When he's afraid for his friends, he acts. So yes, there was an impulsive moment of being afraid and wanting to protect everyone from the darkness. But then he thought things through. But, you know, too late.

Also considering we have canon evidence later that someone is able to manipulate Jedi visions and what they see inside others, that could explain why Luke cut himself off because he couldn't trust anymore.
