[Christian Bale in Little Women]

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Who would you have preferred to see in the role?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-21 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
OP.

Jack Black, or that guy who plays Sam the hobbit.

I agree.

But then the only role I ever really liked him in was his Newsies one. DiCaprio might have been okay, though he was still such a baby face at that point. Ryan Phillippe could have done a decent job, I think.

Honestly, I never liked Laurie much, so it never bothered me even though Bale didn't quite fit the role. The one I wasn't fond of was the one who played the older Amy.

Eh, the worst casting/portrayal for me was Eric Stoltz as John Brooke. Everyone else takes a distant second.

(What is up with all the Little Women secrets lately?)

Bale has trouble in roles where he's not supposed to be an obvious asshole. Laurie's got issues, but he's mostly likeable.

I just watched this movie yesterday!

You do you OP. This is the only role I’ve enjoyed Christian Bale in.

On an unpopular note, I vastly prefer Laurie/Amy to Laurie/Jo.

You are not alone. I prefer him with Amy too.

Yes to Laurie/Amy!

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
saaame. Jo was 100% correct that they would have been a terrible match.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I never liked Laurie/Jo and always thought Jo was right, they make better friends than romantic partners. But I didn't like Laurie/Amy either because it felt like the author wanted to pair Laurie up with SOMEBODY and Amy was the only one left? In the books she calls him "my lord" which is creepy as hell, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't he call her "my lady"? It's been a very long time since I read the book, but I remember the "my lady" "my lord" being a kind of playful teasing thing between them. The lord and lady of their "castle", so to speak.

DA- yeah, this.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like Laurie/Amy much either, but I do think they are both getting what they want out of that relationship. She gets money and travel, he gets to be in the March family.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, me too. Laurie and Jo would have driven each other crazy.
