Name: Ann (or JoAnn)
Age: 22
Location: Steubenville, OH
Fandoms: Torchwood, Doctor Who, Brothers & Sisters, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, House, MD, Pushing Daisies. Does "British actors" count as a fandom? It totally should.
What in fandom interests me: Not being the only one to geek out and talk on and on and on and how it always seems to new knowledge and interests and how damn silly so many people seem to be.
What in fandom does NOT interest me: Ship wars, drama, superiority complexes. (I have enough of that in my own head!)
Major Non-fandom Interests: Reading, writing, music, singing, theater (especially musical), other cultures and other geeky things.
My LJ Contains Mostly: fangirly things, real-life whining and amusements, random things that amuse me and hopefully others. I mean, my entries are public, so feel free to take a look though if you want.
Other: A chicken and an egg were lying in bed. The chicken was smoking a cigarette and looking pretty smug, but the egg looked pissed. The egg looks over at the chicken, sighs and says, "Well, I guess we answered that question."

Hi there! I just took a quick look at your LJ, since we share a number of fandoms (Torchwood, DW, Bones, Pushing Daisies, and yes "British actors" TOTALLY counts as a fandom), just to see if we would "get along" so to speak. I find friending memes very much like going on blind dates: not quite sure if you're going to land someone who would share similar sensibilities.

Anyway, read your thoughts on DW S4E12 and they're pretty cool! Absolutely loved reading your thoughts on Wanted. (I love Timur Bekmamketov with the strength of a thousand burning suns.) So, I thought I'd friend you so you can take a look and see if you'd like to be friends.

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You described it exactly! I'm always reluctant to do the friending meme thing for that same reason, even if there are shared interests, but what's the harm in trying, right? But with shared love over such quirky, geeky things, it's hard not to get on some, right? And oh, Lord, Wanted. It left me a wibbly mess of incoherency. I would LOVE to see more movies by Timur (after I learned how to spell his name) because that's a man who not only gets the visual aspect of movies but the story, too. I'm adding you right now! And hey, are you... Filipino?

[identity profile] iko.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! There's just a hope that the shared love over quirky, geeky things ends up being the same type of love... or at least similar. (In Who fandom, I am pretty much a big multishipper, so although I'm cool with people preferring one ship over another so long as they don't enter ship war territory because most likely I like both the ship they like and the ship they don't. Hee hee!)

Timur Bekmambetov has made three other films that are fairly easy to get in the US. The two easiest ones are Night Watch and Day Watch. The former is a MUST SEE for anyone who liked Wanted, because they share the same visual aesthetic... and Day Watch is just a continuation of that storyline.

And yes, I am a Filipina (born there, but naturalized when I was a teen).

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Now we can fumble around and not be sure how close to get and whether or not we should offer to pay for dinner to split it. It's going to be a bit awkward, but I'm sure we'll get through it! Or... occasionally run into each other in posts and avoid eye contact. Either way, win-win, don't you think? And I totally agree. Multiple ships rule. All that variety! And hey, that means others get to have fun, trying to win you towards their ship with goodies and talk! (Tosh/Ten. It would totally work! ...sort of.)

Oh! I saw the books on which those are based in the bookstore and was really interested. Alas, I love books but don't have the attention span for them. I will definitely have to find those.

Dude. Dude. I am, too! I was born and raised in America, but you know, pinoy pride and all that good stuff.

Does "British actors" count as a fandom?
It sure does. One of my life goals is to be well-versed in what I have dubbed "six degrees of British actors".

Also, hello, Ohio! I grew up just outside of Youngstown. :DD

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's a big, all-encompassing kind of fandom, but damn it, it's a good one! And... your six degrees might be one of my favorite things to do when I'm bored. And hello, Youngstown! I almost went to YSU but ended up at Kent State! Tres, tres wild. Add? Yes?

[identity profile] jananaphone.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Okay... Stephen Campbell Moore & John Barrowman. GO! (Hee!)

I'd say at least 3/4 of my graduation class went to either YSU or OSU. I, sick of the suburbs, ran away to Philadelphia. Lollers. Add: of course!

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Stephen was in Bright Young Things in which Simon Callow appeared, and he was also in series one of "Doctor Who" as Charles Dickens, the same series that John first appeared as Captain Jack. Ha! Okay, I admit, I had to look up Simon Callow's name, though I did know he was in both those things before! How about... Paul Bettany and Gerard Butler?

I can't say I blame you. YSU kind of scares me a bit, but it had the program I wanted. Whereabouts are you from? I had a few friends from Canfield (and, ahem, a few enemies >.>). Wee! Adding now.

[identity profile] jananaphone.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh boy. I haven't seen either of them in much. I know Bettany was in A Knight's Tale with Laura Fraser, who was in "Casanova" with David Tennant, who was in Bright Young Things with Emily Mortimer, who was in Dear Frankie (which I have not seen) with Gerard Butler! Yay!

Oh, WEIRD. I'm from right smack dab in the middle of Canfield. I have a few friends from there left, but mostly I just hated everyone in the town. Which is why I moved 400 miles east, of course. :DDD

(edited because I don't know the difference between east & west)

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
You're life is seriously lacking in Bettany, first off, and oh, you are good! Also, I had completely forgotten about Dear Frankie (which I also highly recommend for its cuteness)! If I'm not mistaken, Bettany had dated Emily, too. (And Laura for that matter...) This is going to be fun!

Seriously? Oh, man, way weird. I knew two guys from there who are wonderful, and one guy who was the most ignorant ass I have ever encountered, so, you know, Canfield's two-for-three with me. I take it you haven't gone back, huh?

[identity profile] jananaphone.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
NEEDS MOAR BETTANY. Yes. :D I'll add it to my must-see list, which is already 85474349 miles long.

Feel free to pop over to my LJ and ask about people you know. It's all flocked and there are maybe 2 or 3 people from my Canfield days, so... you can probably say whatever you want.

I only go back to visit my parents, and there's one friend I see every time I go home. That's pretty much it. Sometimes I'll drive around town and remember all the people I hate. It's always a relief to see the Philly skyline again, haha.

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
MOAR MOAR MOAR!

You're really so very lucky. I ended up right back in Steubenville for a while, and going home really shouldn't be so stressful or unpleasant. :\

[identity profile] xo-prettywords.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
a) British actors? totally a fandom, or at least deserves to be.
b) the joke took me way too long to get but was brilliant when I did.

Well, we share shows and a love of James McAvoy (oh hey, I just lurked your journal). Add? Friends? Maybe?

These memes are always so awkward, haha.

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
The memes are awkward and horrible, yet... here we are! And yes, add, definitely. In my experience, people who love McAvoy are some of the best people.

a) If it's not a fandom, I declare it so! It'll be the best, geekiest fandom ever! Or... is.
b) Don't worry. It took me a while to get it, too, but oh, it's one of my favorite jokes! ;)

[identity profile] ex-dwimmer.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
HIMYM is hilarious and you told one of my favourite jokes on a friending meme. I think I may love you.

Mind a friending?

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
HIMYM is so much awesome. It's got every kind of good humor you could ever want, and yay! Seriously, what do they expect us to put in that "other" section anyway? I don't mind a friending at all so long as you don't mind one back. ;)

[identity profile] ex-dwimmer.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! People ask me why I like it so much and I just have to sputter incolerently and mutter about 80's pop stars and tramp stamps.

I had no idea so I just put a picture of Chris Hansen. It seems to work, I guess? No pedos yet xD SWEET! ♥

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually try for the NPH approach, which works out quite well most of the time. All they have to do is just watch it, and then they'll seeeeee.

Aww, now why didn't I think of that? I mean, even the perverts watch Chris Hansen.

Brothers and Sisters! I love that show :) My flatmate and I mainlined the first season a couple of months ago and are now waiting not-so-patiently for s2 to come out on DVD in the UK. Love it. even if I have a really hard time deciding which sibling is my favourite.

I had a quick nose at your DW thoughts for this past week and I approve of your Jenny theory! I want to know how she fits in too, I hope they aren't just going to leave her off in outer space somewhere.

Hoping you won't mind if I hit that 'Friend' button :)

[identity profile] cloverdilly.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhhhhh, it's one of the best. Seriously. I haven't even heard of the S2 DVD coming out here in America yet, but it shouldn't take that long, right? It was a super-shortened season (yes, we get spoiled over here with our 23 episodes a year) and everything. Just look at them like a mother would, no favorites! Or at least, that's what you tell them. I admit that I tend to care a lot about what happens to Kevin ♥

RIGHT! So it wasn't me who just thought how completely random it was to have her unless she does something?

I don't mind at all for I shall be doing the same exact thing. ;)

[identity profile] glammetalkitten.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I spent a lot of time loving Kevin as well! Also boggling over Rob Lowe playing a Republican senator...I have trouble separating him from his West Wing character at the moment :S
