It's a real thing that they're seriously considering. Veterinarians are against it but Moby and the local vegans want to show the world that LA is "the most progressive place on earth". And they're happy to endanger thousands of dogs each year to do it.

I live in Los Angeles and I had not heard about this until this secret. I am a vegetarian but I'm totally against putting dogs on a vegan diet so fuck these people.

Also there are any number of more important issues they could take on if they want to improve Los Angeles instead of making a big deal over dogs eating meat. I would suggest helping homeless people, for instance, as we have a huge homelessness problem despite being so "progressive," but they would probably only want to put them on vegan diets too.

It came up on my feed last week and there was an immediate pushback against it, so yeah, sadly, it is real.

I’d be fine with putting homeless people on vegan diets. All homeless people, everywhere, get three tasty, nutritious, varied meals a day, plus a few snacks, for free. Vegans with jobs could pay for it. I’d totally give money to people with “will work for meat” signs, though, and I’ve been a vegetarian for, um *counts* 23 years.

I've been a vegetarian for about twelve years and I feel similarly.

Since you're local, can you call the shelters and tell them this directly?

I think the issues you cite are handled by different people.

I could call the shelters but they probably don't make the decisions about what the animals eat. I'm going to try to find out who does though.

The issues of animal shelters and homelessness are handled by different people for sure - I was referring more to Moby and other celebrities and how they get involved in issues they may not understand.

ayrt

Some people, jeez. I don't know that much about dog diets, but I was immediately sure there was something wrong with a vegan diet for them. And really, of all the things to focus on, why this? How about give money to make sure more shelter animals can be taken care of and have better accommodations? That would be progressive and would be helping animals.
