How's your Christmas?

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-12-26 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I slept most of the day. Got a cold/flu/bug/something. But playing with the cat now with her new motorized cat toy. Hilarious. Best present was a bath pillow. I guess I really am an adult. But that thing looks awesome. Best part of the day was when my mom and I gave my dad his argyle pressure socks. He loves argyle, but he's had to wear pressure socks for the last couple of years. Somehow my mom found argyle ones online, and we ordered a bunch.

How has your Christmas been?

Aw. I want to be drunk. Taking too many cold meds. My mom did make mulled cider, though, and that is delicious.

Practical gifts are the best.

I got slightly drunk on wine, I'm still kinda drunk actually. Ha.

Went to visit my bro and his kids, opened some presents, ate too much, and now am going to probably going to put a movie on and fall asleep to it.

Awww nooo, I'm sorry about the cold, I've had that before on xmas day and it's sucky. Feel better and give the kitty many warms pets.

Glad you got to see family. Don't we all eat too much on Christmas? That's part of the fun. Enjoy your movie.

Yup. Hoping it is just a cold. I don't remember feeling this tired in a long time, so I'm slightly worried it might be something like mono. I don't have time for that.

Kitty got lots of pets. And special turkey wet food tonight. She's now sacked out on my mother's chair, looking at me with one half-opened eye.

I opened presents with the roommates over breakfast. Then we all watched Rare Exports, which everyone needs to see if they haven't already. I also did some shots with the cute Solo cup shotglasses I got during presents breakfast. 10/10 holiday, would recommend.

I hung out with my family. We baked and decorated cookies and watched movies on TV. It was pretty great. I love it when we just chill for the holidays.

Chill is nice. I appreciate chill more and more these days.

I went fucking insane cooking, barely ate anything because after being over the stove for hours I was done with food, and then drank three glasses of wine so I couldn’t be trusted to do the dishes.

Well, at least you got some wine. And I'm sure that the food turned out great. My poor mother cooked, and then did the dishes because my dad's back is out and she refused to let me touch them (she's a germaphobe, we do have a dishwasher, but she still obsesses). She's sound asleep in her chair right now. I'm surprised she hasn't found the wine.

Everyone said the food turned out good, and there was a lack of leftovers to prove it, so I guess there's that.

Your mother deserves all the wine. I hope she gets it even though it'll be belated.

I've been sick as a dog since last week. Most everyone in the house has. The most we did was watch A Christmas Story whenever we happened to be downstairs, eat a rather modest Christmas dinner, and try to remember who drank out of what cup/glass to keep my sister healthy.

No drinking for me but I enjoyed watching my girls opened their gifts. Played with the kids, mostly with the tot and her new cooking playset and helped the older one with her Whipple set. Then chilled a bit with the TV and had a good dinner and then gave the cats their gifts.

very low key and fun. I had the morning to myself because my roommate was spending it at his boyfriend's family's house so I just did a little cleaning up and listened to music and watched a little TV, then he came home and we had a nice conversation and he showed me the presents he got from his boyfriend's parents, then a couple of friends dropped by and we had tea and cookies and listened to more music and had a really interesting conversation, then I went to this awesome Chinese restaurant in the next block and picked up Xmas dinner and we ate it while watching old movies on TV.

My mother got suddenly "sick" and couldn't cook, so my sister and I scrambled to get everything cooked last-minute. My cat got a cute ribbon toy that she really enjoys pouncing, so there's that, at least.

I had an ex who was ALWAYS getting "sick" at the last second like that.

It was my first Christmas staying in my home city. I've lived here 11 years, and every year until now I've gone back to my hometown to visit my mother and her SO.

It felt a little weird, and in some ways being home made it feel a little like a non-event, but overall it was good. It was just my father and I. We got up late, opened presents, and then called like 50 restaurants trying to find one that was open. We ended up going to this little hole-in-the-wall Indian place we'd never been to before. They had AMAZING naan. Then we came home and watched Love Actually and ate butter tarts.

I just wanted to let you know that your comment is only the second reference to butter tarts I've ever witnessed in my life, the first being the song "steal my sunshine."

I just looked it up and that would probably be because it seems to be a Canadian thing. They look tasty.

Re: How's your Christmas?

Huh, interesting! I had no idea they were specific to Canada. Everybody around here (British Columbia) bakes/buys butter tarts around Christmas time. They're super common.

I love them, but only when there's at least half a tbsp of vinegar in the recipe (which isn't that common). Otherwise I find them horribly over-sweet.
