Re: How's your Christmas?

It was my first Christmas staying in my home city. I've lived here 11 years, and every year until now I've gone back to my hometown to visit my mother and her SO.

It felt a little weird, and in some ways being home made it feel a little like a non-event, but overall it was good. It was just my father and I. We got up late, opened presents, and then called like 50 restaurants trying to find one that was open. We ended up going to this little hole-in-the-wall Indian place we'd never been to before. They had AMAZING naan. Then we came home and watched Love Actually and ate butter tarts.

I just wanted to let you know that your comment is only the second reference to butter tarts I've ever witnessed in my life, the first being the song "steal my sunshine."

I just looked it up and that would probably be because it seems to be a Canadian thing. They look tasty.

Huh, interesting! I had no idea they were specific to Canada. Everybody around here (British Columbia) bakes/buys butter tarts around Christmas time. They're super common.

I love them, but only when there's at least half a tbsp of vinegar in the recipe (which isn't that common). Otherwise I find them horribly over-sweet.
