OP, I don't know how old you are, but if you do get a chance to say something to your parents about hoping that there will eventually be a return to civility, do so. The return to civility never really came with my parents until I told my stepmother to NEVER AGAIN talk about my mother that way - then both she & my dad stopped. I never told my mom that and she continued for years to badmouth dad.

Maybe not today while things are very fresh, but look for an opportunity down the road. Sometimes the family needs a reminder that the child will continue to love both parents, and will never appreciate abuse thrown in either parents' direction.
