I feel you, OP. I went through my own atheist shitlord phase but even though I'm out of it now, I don't like the amount of good faith (so to speak) the good religious characters in media/fiction often get (as opposed to characters who are supposed to be extreme fundie bigots), or the fact that they seem to belong to cheerful rosy denominations that don't have struggles with how to update their faith or deal with bigots among their own.

I'm still close enough to Christianity in particular (since I grew up WASP in the US) that atheist shitlords genuinely rankle me, but also close enough to know that many of the devout still believe some backwards-ass stuff, as syrupy-sweet and nice as they are.
