Only critics are saying it's good. Most people are saying it's not great and some people even hate it, so there's no need to avoid anything.

My family liked it.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That isn't true at all. It has a great cinemascore.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
It got a lowish score on Rotten Tomatoes (51% liked it, Average Rating: 3.1/5), a mediocre score on IMDB (7.6/10), and a terrible score on Metacritic (4.7/10).

Some CHUD types are boasting about gaming Rotten Tomatoes' viewer scores with bot reviews. Make of that what you will.

angry fans are louder by nature but almost everyone I know who went to see it enjoyed it

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, friend! Now you've met me. And I though it was meh.

who are "most people" and "some people"? those are basically meaningless phrases if they just refer to your social circle, which seems likely. (in my social circle most people liked it, but that's hardly representative of the whole fandom, either.)

I'm talking about what I've seen on the Internet. I've seen very little positive response to it, and virtually no OMG IT WAS SO AWESOME.

That's certainly not the consensus by any means, and please don't try and rewrite history to make it one.

my best friend said it was good and he's not a professional movie critic

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Never use chromatic aberration ever again. Thanks.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*Salutes* Sir yes sir!

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Now drop and give me twenty!

jk and much appreciated

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was too long and had pacing problems. The battle/action scenes were, counter-intuitively, what slowed it down.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that it had pacing problems, but I thought it had fewer pacing problems than TFA. Especially considering the advantage TFA had in that department as the first movie in the series.

I spoiled the shit out of myself before going and I had a very good experience. I think it helped that I was expecting the Canto Bight stuff to drag endlessly but I thought it zipped right along. I thought the whole film had good momentum and didn't waste time anywhere.

There were a few things I didn't like but overall I was happy with it. I do feel that I missed the boat on the discussion though since I didn't see it right away.

I've seen opinions split. Many love it, many hate it, many are just meh about it. There are fandom spaces for all points of view. Personally I loved it, but as long as people aren't telling me I can't love it or doing ridiculous things like starting petitions to make it non-canon, I don't care if anyone or everyone else hates it.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind the petition. it just seems like another way to whine. Petitions never go anywhere. I say let people vent that way if they want to; it just makes them look silly. What does bug me is the vitriol thrown directly at the director and actors. Or the really nasty way people talk about the people involved in the movie. There is no call at all for death threats or to call people white supremists just because you didn't get your headcanon. That shit's not okay.

I agree about the petition. I can't imagine they would make it non-canon and if they did it certainly wouldn't be because a bunch of people complained on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't fond of it. Some of the directions they had characters going in and certain executions of the plot just kind of soured me on the sequel trilogy.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Can someone please point me to the bits of the internet with people who loved it? Everywhere I see online (but for critics, it seems) everyone hated it and go on and on about why. I loved it.
Tbh I'm getting sick of all the Debbie Downers. I want to bask in the joy of it with the other people who loved it.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed it, and I'm really surprised to hear there's so much hate for it. What is it that people hate so much that they're sending death threats and making petitions to make it not canon? Sunken ships?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-29 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think people are angry about Luke's story and the fact that the movie is somewhat negative about the Jedi and a bunch of stuff around that?

which, I don't really understand that point of view at all and I don't understand what movie series they've been watching all along, but hey, nerds are nerds
