I've only ever had a male doctor for that. Obviously you have to go on a case by case basis and by all means shop around! But I've never had an issue with mine. He's cheerful, doesn't make personal remarks, doesn't go into any weird areas, is sensitive to my discomfort/pain and apologizes when I wince. There's usually a female nurse or medical assistant present during the pelvic exam portion of the visit, too. I've never had a single concern or worry.
