I've been watching Quantum Leap for the first time - some of the social commentary hasn't aged well, but the parts that have aren't because they're flawless, but rather because even through the lens that nearly two decades have passed, they were visibly trying. I'd rather have progressive if misplaced than thoughtless, any day!

QL is a great show! And when it aired in the late '80s and early '90s, it really *was* progressive. No other shows were discussing and confronting issues in the way QL was. I know they used terms that are now considered "unwoke," but I know there was no malice meant in any way at all.

The fact that some topics in QL are handled in a cringey way (looking back) just shows how far we've come on those topics! :)

Oh man, I remember back in the day there was an episode about saving a gay sailor from being murdered in a queer bashing, and it was... Like, I lived in the middle of nowhere and the queer people who might have been around me were limiting their visibility just to have a life in a small conservative town, and that was a big fuckin deal to young I-don't-think-I'm-straight me.

QL might not have gotten everything right, but they really did try and it was great for that.
