Be warned. there is no fact so obscure that won't bring a wanker along to mock you for not already knowing it.

All the planets in our solar system could fit in between the moon and the Earth!

Oooh ooh! Let me geek out at you about the VASTNESS OF SPACE.

Here's the tediously accurate model of the solar system
http://joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace/pixelspace_solarsystem.html

Also, and I tried to look up a more detailed explanation but I could only find the 7-mile version.... I built this once and it was AWESOME. If you build a 1-mile long model of the solar system, meaning that you start with the sun, and pluto is a fucking mile away, Jupiter is smaller than a baseball iirc (at least that's what I used). Earth and the other inner planets are the size of peppercorns.

You hit all the planets up to Jupiter in the first quarter of the solar system, and then the distances get really, really long. Like, so long. Just progressively longer. Uranus is only about halfway out. You hit Neptune before the last quarter. Pluto is smaller than the head of a pin, and more than a quarter of a mile beyond Neptune. At that distance the sun is just another star in the sky.

The light we see from other stars is from years ago. Some of it is likely from the beginning of the universe.

The inside of your mouth, down your esophagus, the inside of your stomach, all down your intestines, and out your butt... is on the outside of your body.

This probably isn't weird to anyone but me, but you know those globes that have topographical variation on them? Well the topographical variation on those globes is really exaggerated. In reality, the highest point on a topographical globe should only be about a paper's width high.

As soon as I thought about it, I realized that should've been obvious to me. I mean, no matter how high Everest is, it's nothing compared to the diameter of the planet. But somehow I'd just never really thought of it. If anything, the topographical variation on globes had always seemed under emphasized to me.
