I've never heard anyone say facial hair is something you come to like with age, either.

Then again, some people act like relationships* happen because the universe just arbitrarily smooshes people together and you just magically come to like your partner - facial hair and all - and if you complain you're being too picky... as opposed to a choice on the part of both parties to get together with someone they actually want to be with. That could be what they mean: "Some day you will fall in love with a man with a beard and you won't mind beards so much!" I mean, it could happen, but it's not inevitable.

*Not their relationships - they got together for love, it was very romantic - but other people are supposed to just pair off like field trip buddies.
