That's a weird response. I didn't realize people thought a preference for bearded/hairy men was an age-related thing.

If that kind of look doesn't do anything for you, so be it. I tend to prefer clean-shaven men, too, and I'm in my early 30s, so... When it comes to guys' bodies I don't mind a little hair, though.

But anywho, yeah, like/don't like what you want.

It's absolutely not. Whoever said that it is has no idea what they're talking about.

Yeah, I'm side-eyeing the people who told OP that because it's also a little patronising to indicate a perfectly ordinary preference (facial hair vs none) is somehow age related. Smacks of "hahah when you grow up you'll realise the things you like now we're childish, hahah".

Like what you like, OP.

I've never heard anyone say facial hair is something you come to like with age, either.

Then again, some people act like relationships* happen because the universe just arbitrarily smooshes people together and you just magically come to like your partner - facial hair and all - and if you complain you're being too picky... as opposed to a choice on the part of both parties to get together with someone they actually want to be with. That could be what they mean: "Some day you will fall in love with a man with a beard and you won't mind beards so much!" I mean, it could happen, but it's not inevitable.

*Not their relationships - they got together for love, it was very romantic - but other people are supposed to just pair off like field trip buddies.

I hear it in reference to specific characters all the time. People in the Tolkien fandom often say the young are attracted to Legolas, but adults are attracted to Aragorn. It was the exact opposite for me.

It's because most of the male celeb heartthrobs tweens and teenagers fall for are hairless threatening young things. See Justin Bieber, NSYNC era Timberlake, Leif Garrett and David Cassidy as examples. Or think of the slash pairings younger people like. Do you think they're imagining Tom Selleck or Burt Reynolds type guys or the twinkiest men possible...

I don't know that there's necessarily a correlation though.

There's a slash ship that I would love because the dynamic is exactly what I like, but the idea of them together grosses me out because they're both hairy, and I'm definitely an adult.

Now, maybe that's considered immature by some people, which, fine, that's their opinion, but in general I don't think it's really related to age.

People tend to be attracted to other people within their age range (skewing a little older or younger for some people). So, tweens and teens tend to be attracted to hairless boyband type guys, older women tend to be attracted to guys who are more clearly mature. And pretty much the clearest sign of maturity for guys is facial hair.

So there's a lot of people who thought beards or scruff was gross when they were 15 and no one their age could grow a beard. But then they grew up and hit sexual maturity and started thinking it was super hot.

I'm not into beards personally, though I really like stubble and scruff, but I totally get why people think "liking beards" is something age related.
