People tend to be attracted to other people within their age range (skewing a little older or younger for some people). So, tweens and teens tend to be attracted to hairless boyband type guys, older women tend to be attracted to guys who are more clearly mature. And pretty much the clearest sign of maturity for guys is facial hair.

So there's a lot of people who thought beards or scruff was gross when they were 15 and no one their age could grow a beard. But then they grew up and hit sexual maturity and started thinking it was super hot.

I'm not into beards personally, though I really like stubble and scruff, but I totally get why people think "liking beards" is something age related.
