Spoiled the hell out of myself because tickets are too expensive to watch something I'd be tempted to walk out of.
Wasn't a fan. Didn't completely hate it either though. I think there is a lot of very very bad writing in there. I also hate cringe humour so that was another factor. And it annoys me all the more because the film actually had lots of potential that was killed by shitty writing and dumb jokes in favour of character development.

The best thing the sequel movies have going for them is that the prequel movies were so god-awful that most fans will settle for an okay movie at this point. And TLJ was okay. It was pretty. There were good action sequences and some heartfelt moments. No one was horribly OOC. The characters that were supposed to have chemistry had it. It even did a better job than TFA in a few things, like making Kylo Ren seem like someone who might actually be a credible threat instead of someone who'd probably have accidentally cut himself in half with his lightsaber years ago throwing a tantrum because someone ate his hot pockets. Is it going to make anyone's "Best Movie of the Year" list? Probably not. But it was okay, and that's enough for some people.

I disagree in some parts.
First of all, one of my main issues was that, while Kylo was at least a bit more threatening than in TFA (although not by much, imo), absolutely NOBODY ELSE on the evil side was. It was all a mess of icompetent bumbling morons who seemed more at home in an Austin Powers movie. It was annoying as hell.
And I think that quite a few people were immensely OOC. Mostly because - and that was my other main issue - a lot of scenes were done with a dumb joke or quip in mind instead of how the actual characters should be acting. It was all very "let's make an Avengers movie full of snarky one-liners and silly jokes and worry about the plot later, if at all".
It had some good action sequences. It also had some heartfelt moments. But on the other hand, it had some hilariously dumb plotholes and new characters that in some regards were okay but in others added nothing of value to the plot.

Cringe humor?

The second hand embarassment type. Like awkward scenes that get dragged out too long or exist at all (like Poe's "prank call", the "shirtless Kylo" scene, Rey destroying the stuff of those nun-creatures, the "drinking milk from the teats of aliens" scene etc.). I'll be the first one to admit I'm a bit oversensitive when it comes to those things, but that's why I was not particularly well entertained in quite a few secenes.

Huh. None of that stuff was embarrassing or cringey to me. I never would've even thought of those moments in those terms. And most of it seemed like it actually served a purpose beyond trying to make the audience chuckle.

Hm. Well, let's just respectfully disagree on that.

That stuff came off more as slapstick than cringe to me

Yeah, none of that's cringe. Some of it is straight up slapstick, like Rey destroying the aliens' cabbages over and over again. The rest of it's just... old-school sitcom jokes. Seriously, I don't even find Adam Driver remotely attractive, but a shirtless Kylo scene hardly counts as cringe. Well, maybe if he was trying to get Rey to do a mole check or getting his nipples waxed or something.

Rey destroying shit is more slapstick, yes. Plenty of the other scenes were pretty cringey to me though.
