THE PRINCE OF EGYPT

THINK OF IT

Oh man, I would LOVE this... except, I would want it reworked to not be Christian. Bear with me, here. But the story is literally the most horrifying biblical myth, and I think the movie failed in trying to create a Christian message when you had a scene of children being slaughtered (by God).

Magical elements would have to be kept - I'd keep it for the Egyptian pagan priests, too, to be fair. But the story's BEST moments aren't the religious stuff, it's the love/hate relationship between the brothers, and the protagonist's sense of identity. The human drama is a much stronger story.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this story a Jewish one? There is no Christianity yet.
And the Old Testament God (the pre-Christianity part of the Bible) is one vengeful motherfucker in a lot of places.

It definitely is. OT God is not a very chill deity at all.

I was gonna say, it's not a Christian story; it predates Christianity by a good 5,000 years at least...

It is a Christian story. It's in the Christian bible. It is also a Jewish story, yes. It's both.

It's only retroactively a Christian story. The movie never makes explicit reference to Christianity.

My dude. The Old Testament is Jewish, only they call it the Tanakh. Jesus was Jewish. Christianity is just a branch of Judaism with a charismatic cult leader that made up new rules for followers. It's not an original religion that developed in isolation.

I think you're confused by the argument. No one is saying the Old Testament stories aren't Jewish. But they are also Christian by merit of being part of the Christian Bible and within its canon. Judaic religion and myth includes a number of stories that are not in the Christian Bible as well. But the ones that are, are the stories of both religions - because by definition, Christianity is (essentially) just an extended version of Judaism.
