Food advice for cats with CKD?

[personal profile] syncing_feeling 2018-01-11 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
My cat is now on a special renal diet for his kidney failure, and I was wondering if anyone had advice on what to do for snacks/treats? He goes absolutely nuts for the renal food itself, which is great because he eats every bit of it, but it also means that anytime we move/stand up he goes into full-on meowing/begging mode because he wants more of it, even when he's just been fed. I know hydration is the key thing here, so does anyone have experience with what kind of treats or snacks he can have that won't upset/clash with his diet? I'm taking him for a check-up next week so I'll ask the vet too, but we're feeling so guilty tonight because he keeps begging between meals. :<

Edit: I have looked to see if the renal brand does bags of treats, but they all seem to be hard/crunchy ones and his teeth aren't doing too well. :(

Hmm, can you soak the renal brand treats in water to soften them? A pain, but it might be a way around the teeth issue.

I'm sorry about his kidney failure. :(
