IA. Rey is the best and I'd love to shop her but I just don't like any of the ships. Some are like... fine, but not great, and some are awful, but there's none that are genuinely good IMO.

And Finn rose is pretty good on its own terms. I like Rose.

Initially I liked Rose, but the kiss felt out of place and forced on her part. Like, what bugged me was that she was one-sidedly infatuated with Finn, and also that part of her story-line could have easily been carried by her sister had she not died. I do get the importance of that character death being part of Poe's character growth and thus necessary, but rose didn't feel as deep of a character in the end to me, and it bugged me.

This is pretty close to how I feel. I loved how Finn got really mad on her behalf over the necklace charm thing, and they had several cute moments, but in the end I was like, this person is awfully removed from her fresh grief and immediately falling in love with Finn? It could have been a believable feelings-forming-under-stress thing, but I just found it a little forced.

Yeah actually, the grief just up and vanishing was weird, too. I mean yeah she dwelled on it a little, but it felt like we were having our heart-strings tugged on just for an insert romance, and maybe if this film was where their interactions built up, and her crush formed by the next movie, I'd find it more believable. Instead, her motivations took a bit of a backseat to her feelings for Finn. At least she was driven to save everyone. I liked that part. The casino scene was a bit long though... :/ Overall I had problems with the pacing of that and the long fight during the escape, though I liked the way that they played out. Pacing and Rose. Those are my big hangups on this film.

Yes, I had many of the same problems.

I like the idea of Finn/Rey and Finn/Rose, both have interactions I like but I also can't say I super-ship either of them, it's more a low-key thing for me where whatever they go with in canon I'll be good.

I loved FinnRose in TLJ!

I came out of the movie really shipping them and then I went to check out the fandom tags and it was like 5 fanarts plus wank about Rose. Mostly hate against her or her actress. Also Reylo wank somehow cause everyone who ships it must be a Reylo shipper pairing the spares or something?

I think I'm a "Rey gets married to the Force" person.

I liked Rose well enough throughout the film, but I hate how she took away Finn's agency by knocking him out of the sky when he was going to sacrifice himself to save everyone. Sure, I love Finn, and I'm happy he's alive, but that was his choice, and to take it away from him because she "obviously" knows what is better for him than he does really bothered me. Especially because it seemed most of the Rose/Finn was more one-sided coming from her. So I will likely never like her or be able to ship them.

yes, this was my biggest problem - I thought she was adorable and liked her interactions with Finn, hero-worship and all. like, that seems believable from the lower-decks crew passing around inspirational stories and being all *hearteyes* over Finn rebelling against the First Order and joining them.

but knocking him out of the sky put her promptly on my shit list for SO MANY REASONS.

1. that's his sacrifice, she had no right to take that choice from him
2. she crashed into him so recklessly that she could've easily killed him herself!
3. if Luke hadn't showed up, Kylo would've executed everyone, including Finn and Rose, it's not like she had a better plan, so WTF
4. that whole 'we don't win by being like them, we win by thinking of the people we love' or whatever her bullshit speech was - aside from how it implied fighting the enemy was bad (WTF #2), he WAS DOING THAT FOR THE PEOPLE HE LOVED, so what is her point even?
5. that kiss was so cringeworthy.

I don't have any ships from the new films, only Reylo as a notp, but Rose does still seem to have a one-sided, hero-worshipping crush on Finn, and I'm not a big fan of those turning into relationships, but I'd be afraid of Rose being killed off to motivate Finn in the next film if they don't end up paired off, and I do like Rose.

As for Rey... I dunno. I like her and Finn together well enough, I guess. I feel like I might've shipped Reylo if Kylo had any redeeming qualities aside from briefly hesitating to blow his mom to bits once, but not after that disgusting "you're nothing, but not to me" bullshit. Maybe she and Poe will interact more in the next movie? It'd be weird if they introduced a new character just to be her love interest in the next film. Maybe she'll just stay single.

You clearly missed the point of the you're nothing scene. He wasn't saying "you're worthless unless you're with me", he was saying "even if your parents were literally whos, I think you're awesome as you are. Coming from a highly regarded lineage is overrated anyways".

AYRT--no, it wasn't an attempt to build up her self esteem and tell her she was totally awesome. It was, basically, negging. He didn't say "I know you think you're nothing special, but you're special to me," he said "Everyone thinks you're nothing," preying on her fears and pulling the classic "only I see you as having any value" line from the abusive shitsack playbook.

Does Chewie think she's nothing? Finn? Did Han? I don't ship Rey with anyone, but definitely not someone who would go for her jugular like that. Maybe Kylo doesn't know how to give a no-strings-attached friendly compliment and it was the best he could do because kindness is weakness or something. Still makes him unfit for a relationship, even diregarding the whole "unstable mass-murderer" thing.

Heh, I've been waiting for a reylo to try and rationalize this line. It was Negging 101. Then when she rejects him he frames her for murder, fires on her ship and promises Luke he'll destroy her.

I don't want Rey to end up with anybody, so...sorry I guess. I like how they've handled her relationships so far: she has strong bonds with people, mentor/student with han and luke and close friend/family-esque with finn and BB-8 and maybe even Chewie a bit, and even some weird "snoke put us in each other's heads and we're strong in the Force so we can't help but to reach an understanding" with kylo. But so far, nothing explicitly romantic. It may be that I'm ace myself but I crave stories where characters don't have to end up with romantic partners to be considered "whole" or to consider their character arc complete.

And it's not like those stories don't exist, hell, look at Luke- he never had to have a girlfriend beyond the hilarious incestuous ship teasing (UNLESS you count the old EU, I feel like I'll get crucified if I don't add that caveat because OMG MARA JADE BLAH BLAH). But my point is there's always room for protags who don't need love interests to be interesting, and I like Rey a lot so I want her to be one.

Rey is also my favorite character, and I’m happy to ship her with no one.

On a side note, I’m usually resistant to crying racism over character bashing... but some of the reactions to Rose and her actress have been particularly yeesh.

Where I hang out, no one likes Rose, but everyone thinks Kelly Tran is awesome. And Paige seems pretty popular. It's almost like there can be reasons for disliking a WOC other than the fact that she is a WOC.

Eh, great, but why are you so defensive? I could not possibly have been more circumspect in my remark. Some of the reactions. If you haven't made racist comments about Kelly then it is not about you.
