It's definitely a massive tonal shift and it took me watching it a second time to embrace it. The first time I watched it was opening day in the UK and it was one part over-hyped excitement that I finally got another Thor film and several parts of not really knowing if I liked the new direction.

I've noticed a lot of Thorki shippers didn't like it but also Loki fans in general. I'm an unapologetic Loki fan but I feel like the very least he deserved was getting his arse kicked around a bit after all the shit he's pulled. I was completely fine with him getting a break from being angsty as well. It wasn't my favourite interpretation of him but I do prefer him as not 100% good nor 100% evil so pre-credits Ragnarok ended in the right place in terms of my personal wish list for the character.

Yeah all of the people I follow are afaik Thor fans first and foremost (which is what I am, though I love Loki too). I haven't seen any diehard Thor fans who liked how they treated his character. I'm not surprised if Loki fans didn't like it, too, since it was a little lackluster for him. I know a lot of people were hoping for a lot more focus on Thor and Loki in the final movie (just like people wanted for Steve and Bucky in CW and didn't get there either).

I liked that he got kicked around a little, since it was overdue. But I thought he needed a little more emotional payoff than he got. It felt to me like Loki's arc wasn't really resolved, just kind of set aside and ignored in favor of jokes.

I keep hoping we'll get more of an emotional pay-off with Loki doing something good with little regard for himself to help others (but especially Thor) for the first time in years in IW. Loki just lost his home too and it'd be true to most interpretations of the character to want the universe to survive so that he can continue messing around with it. But the way fandom is carrying on (acting like he's a dead man walking within the first 5 minutes) and also the lack of him in any of the set photos/promo stuff compared to other characters makes me think that won't happen. At least there'll always be fanfic.

Marvel movies IMNSHO have a really bad problem incorporating Draco in leather pants into the script. Characters do horrible things, and then end up buddying up with title character without much of the way of consequences or reflection.
