133. What those kids who whine about adults in fandom forget is that the people who are writing the books, making the shows and creating the comics are all adults who are much older than themselves. The reason why the creators got into it in first place was because they were fans themselves.

RTD was a huge fan of Doctor Who as a kid and still is, so he brought back the series. The creators of Avatar were in love with anime and kung fu movies, so that's where that show came from. J.K. Rowling was in her thirties when she started to write about Harry Potter.

If these people had listened to these kids then we would never have had any of these great fandoms. And the kids would have nothing to whine about.

So, again, shut up, you, young punks, or else us, adults, will take our creations and only share it amongst other adults.

Agreed, excellent point. Not to mention the fact that fandom as a phenomenon is at least as old as the Sherlock Holmes stories and people waiting on the docks for the ships carrying the next installment of the latest Dickens serial. SF fan culture and conventions go back to the 40s and 50s. Slash is traceable to at least the late 60s/early 70s.

Fandom has been around for generations. So young pips, there are lots of folks of your grandparents' age and older who were involved back in the day and still are. The current teen generation didn't invent it, for fuck's sake.
