Sewing on a button. It doesn't happen. It just... it doesn't happen.

I couldn't thread a needle if you pointed a gun at my head, although I can sew on buttons and repair seams, etc. if the needle's already threaded.

It sounds like we are a team! I can thread needles lickety-split.

If you haven't tried them yet, for me needle threaders are a big help.

I thought these were such a neat idea when I started sewing as a teen, then I broke every single one I ever bought. Maybe I'm just ham-fisted.

OMG, now I finally know what those are!!! We all had them as kids in our sewing kits, but were taught to thread needles by hand - always wondered what the heck those were for - thanks for linking!

I can sew on a button, and that button isn't going anywhere when I'm done with it, but it'll be the ugliest sewing job anyone's ever seen.

I have a similar sewing method. I can sow pretty but weak, or sturdy and ugly. I usually favour function over form.

I can't sew pretty at all. I learned, but it just never made any damn sense to me. I'd think I was making a nice neat row of stitches, but then it'd get all bunched up and fucky. -_-

But I can damn well string a hundred goddamn threads through a button and tie a superfluous amount of knots, and that's really all you need to keep a button in place hahaha

Anything financial. I was good in math in school. But practical financial stuff? Forget it.

A lot of things that involve using my hands or spacial sense. Sewing, cutting things with a knife, making things even or level or straight.

I'm kinda the opposite in regards to math. I was awful at algebra and geometry, so I got put in personal finance (the "dumb" math class) instead of calculus for my last year of high school. It was the first math class where I got an A. So now I can do my own taxes and calculate APR, but I still have trouble solving for x and y and figuring out the circumfrence of a circle and I have no idea why my brain works that way.

because finance and maths are POLES APART

as somebody who did maths at uni, i got shoved towards doing financial stuff afterwards - and it bored the shit out of me

you study maths and it's advanced calculus, and logic and reasoning and graph theory and knot theory and coding theory and multiple integrals and vector field theory and FUCKING TENSORS

and then you go into finance... and it's columns in an excel spreadsheet

Ugh, same here with finance. I've never done my own taxes before. My dad also tries to get me involved with real estate stuff because our family has some land investments and because the house we all live in is partially mine by title, but no matter how much he tries to explain mortgage, equity, refinancing, or anything financial housing it flies over my head. I just want to rent an apartment for the rest of my life because that seems the simplest thing to do and I don't plan on marrying or having my own family.

I know it's all important, but it's such a headache. I wish they taught real-world finance classes in school. Maybe I'd have learned this stuff by now.

Riding a bike, and my balance isn't terrible but put me on a bike, or rollerskates, and my ability to stay upright plummets.

Tbf I can go in a straight line on a bike, I just can't turn at all.

Re: What easy things do you suck at doing?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I can turn on a bike, but it's gonna be a very wide turn. You have to lean more to do a narrower turn and that's when I fall off.

If I don't fall off it'll be wobbly and disconcerting turn, as a result I've avoided bicycles for a long time. :P

Phone calls. I avoid them as much as humanly possible. I just panic and stutter and talk nonsense as a result.

You know all those people who can make rice?

Well I'm not one of them. In fact my cooking skills have gone down the sewer.
