Learned about the yips. The yips are basically a condition where an otherwise healthy professional player spontaneously loses the skills required to play the game. Seen most often in gold and baseball. I'd love to find out if any professional gamers have had this happen to them as well.

Ah, that's makes more sense. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what you meant, golf never ever occurred to me. I kept trying to come up with something - What sport uses gold? Maybe it was supposed to be gold medalists. Would gold-panning count as a sport?

Hell, gold panning is probably a sport somewhere.

Just when you think the world can't get any weirder. If you got the yips gold-panning, would you just forget how to, like, swirl your pan?

I'd heard about it in the context of golf (my grandfather used to both play, and watch it on tv) so my brain translated without even noticing the typo.

The yips are so fascinating. What's most interesting is that it's usually one specific action that they become unable to do - for instance, in baseball, it's often you stop being able to throw strikes as a pitcher, or throwing from second base to first base if you're a fielder. There was one catcher a few years ago who stopped being able to throw the ball back to the pitcher. It was really weird.

Apparently it's also a thing in sports like archery where you have to put all this concentration into one specific motion. It's really interesting.

The yips was something House mentioned and my roomie who used to be a big baseball fan explained to me.

After watching The Post, I got sucked into a Wikipedia research hole and ended up finding out about Mary Pinchot Meyer, the sister-in-law of Benjamin Bradlee. She was a journalist and pacifist, was murdered in 1964, was married to a CIA operative tasked with making the media fall in with the CIA line, had a serious affair with JFK (and allegedly got him to try out different sorts of drugs), was meeting with Timothy Leary, and was being wiretapped by the CIA.

While I've heard and read all kinds of things about Marilyn Monroe, I don't remember hearing about Mary Pinchot Meyer.

I been watching the "Survival Lilly" channel recently on youtube.

fascinating stuff. all about survivalism.

There's an artist who builds techno tracks from assembly language code of operating system patches and malware.

The artificial intelligence gaydar can be explained by cultural grooming and presentation differences.

What struck me most about those gaydar images is that the supposed "average straight person" is visibly older and weighs visibly more.

Which honestly should have made them question the results right off the bat, before even getting to eyeshadow.
