I make $7000 a week watching Grey's Anatomy from home! Ask me how!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
how

Lol, my reaction to these sorts of spam posts is so conditioned at this point that when I saw yours, I literally forgot I was on F!S for like two seconds, and just went, "Ugh, what site am I even on? Do I really want to be here even? Maybe it's time to just get off the internet for a while."

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've never watched Grey's Anatomy but I used to hear the same thing about CSI and the like, which I did watch to the end. I just didn't go on any fan sites. I still enjoyed the show (save for the awful finale).

I have no idea why it's still on. I am in the demographic that should be watching it but it just doesn't interest me at all. I know it has a huge cult following.

I imagine that it's one of those shows that a lot of people tune into, they might just not really talk about it afterwards, after all there's plenty of shows that chug along quite happily without having much buzz about them because they have a consistent viewer-base that keeps them on the air.

It still, somehow, has a decently high number of viewers. I quit when Callie left. But there is still an audience.

eh my sister watches it so... *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how every long-running show I don't watch stays on the air, unless it's something I hear people talk about a lot, or it's a less character-driven show like Law and Order, where you can just jump in randomly. I got the impression Grey's Anatomy is more soapy than a procedural, so I don't know what's up.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, tell me about it. I quite some time in season three.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
It still has the most viewers of any show on ABC. Plus the network will do anything to keep Shonda Rhimes happy.

My mom

My friends' moms

At least one of my friends

Shonda Rimes shows are unwatchable. I only watched Scandal as long as I did to support a show with a black woman lead, and that was two seasons too long.

What about How To Get Away With Murder?

The show still gets the highest 18-49 ratings on the network, and they just announced today that they signed Ellen Pompeo for two more years. It's not going anywhere.

I'm always a little bemused when running into this idea that a show must not be doing well because there's not a lot of online buzz or fandom. I used to see this about NCIS all the time, and that show is still CBS's highest rated drama even in its 15th season.

(Which admittedly speaks more to the failure of broadcast networks to launch successful new shows the last few years, but still.)

I think a lot of the people who watch aren't necessarily fandom people.

But also, there are just some shows that you watch and that's all you do with them. You don't tweet about them, you don't write fic about them, you don't look for fic about them, etc. Sure you'll share your opinion if someone asks, but you're not proactive about it.

Re: I think a lot of the people who watch aren't necessarily fandom people.

Yeah, this. This is how I am about most of the shows I watch.

I anger-watch it. All the good characters left and it is SO far up it's own butt.

But I can't stop.

I've never watched it but my brother and his daughter do. It's actually kind of adorable watching them squee over it together even though I think it's like... Days of Our Bedpans.

I'm with OP. I had no idea it was still on the air. I mean I've never seen it but still, I'm surprised.

My mom and my sister still watch it and I've seen it a few times with them. My sister is a nurse, so she snarks about the medical stuff, but she still loves the characters.

this is how I feel about 90% of mainstream network shows and sitcoms

I figure very old people still watch

I think this is one of those shows that people discuss with their coworkers by rehashing the details? I work in an office environment where they gush about shows, but none of my coworkers are the type to write fanfiction or expand on their fandom talk. They just like to repeat what happened in the latest episode to anyone who will listen.

GA is like OUAT and Daytime Soap Operas: you'd think it should be gone once the series went sour and who's watching it, but there are fans out there.
