I don't feel like these are cool characters, that's the problem. A show about Jo, Ellen and the psychic Pamela, that I could get behind.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP

They are cool to me. A buddy, dark comedy, series would be hella fun to watch with them in it.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I ship Bobby/Rufus so I could get behind that.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm convinced no one is genuinely interested in female characters.

I know this is probably a troll comment, but since I've seen people say things like this and mean it: I am primarily interested in female characters. I'll give male characters a chance but they're the ones that have to prove themselves to me for me to like them.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I sure hope it's a troll comment.

Years ago on this community (when it was on LJ) I saw someone who was not a troll say "I don't like female characters and I think most fandoms would be better off without them." I hope they've grown up since then.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
i think it's probably just someone being frustrated and hyperbolic

Yeah, Supernatural is an outlier for me; almost everything else I like has at least one female lead.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Generalizing it like that it's definitely a troll comment. But for me personally, I'm not interested in female characters.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Bobby/Rufus is a good ship.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's sexist but I do think it's exhausting how strong and common preferences like this are despite the nearly infinite number of series with predominantly male casts and leads

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I am not disagreeing with your overall sentiment, but in this case, isn't the OP contrasting existing characters with new characters who are yet to be seen? I don't find it surprising that someone might prefer a show with characters they have grown to know, and grown fond of, versus a new show that might have an interesting concept but still has new and unfamiliar characters.

Note that I am not up to date on SPN, and while I recognize Bobby and Rufus, I am presuming that the women are from the as yet unaired spinoff.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

If I'm not mistaken, as I am not up to date on SPN either, these female characters have been introduced already (most of them, any how). I recognize the cop (the first lady) and Castiel's vessel's daughter (third or fourth girl, blonde long hair, young). so I'll guess the rest are more recent seasons add ins.

I personally am not against the show. Will I watch it? probably not. I don't have a huge investment in these characters (as opposed to Bobby and Rufus), but I'm also tired of SPN. I would definitely watch a different sh9w with female leads that wasn't a SPN remake/spin off, but did contain supernatural elements.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I want to be excited about it, but given how poorly I felt SPN handled the female characters before I gave up on it in season 5, I'm not as I have little hope it will be good, and don't know if I'll end up watching.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
LOL IKR, this is the last show on earth I'd expect to have a female character spinoff. Not just the way the show handles them, but the distaste its audience seems to have for them in general. Or at least did when I watched it. Which, like you, was only through season 5.

Pretty much everyone in the fandom is behind this, and the two women sheriffs are pretty much universally liked. So - yeah. Different now (and not as bad as people want to think it was, then, because only the really vocal asshats got all the attention).

A AYRT RT
Maybe it will be better and I should give it a chance. I'll see what I hear about it as it gets closer, but I strongly disagree with "and not as bad as people want to think it was, then, because only the really vocal asshats got all the attention". I didn't only pay attention to vocal as shots, and I saw a lot of hate towards female characters. The comments before season 3 when people heard they were introducing two female characters was beyond ridiculous. And it wasn't just how fans treated characters, but how they were portrayed on the show as well in a lot of cases. (If it were just the former, I would just consider watching the show and staying far the fuck away from fandom.)

Yeah, no. Bobby and Rufus are great, but I want to see some damn women hunters, thank you.

(Plus, they're both dead, and any show about them would either be some weird afterlife thing? Which - boring - or them younger, which would mean other actors which could be very meh. So no.)

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel too. I like Rufus and I like Bobby, but they're gone and I want to see female hunters.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Why is it an either/or? Someone has to either love Bobby and Rufus or Jody and the girls?

Bobby is still my favorite character, so I'd love a spin-off (set in the past, I imagine) about him but I'm entirely happy with a spin-off with Jody as the lead.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2018-01-18 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not? I just don't see a show about Bobby and Rufus being anything like as interesting or fun as the one we're getting.

I still like Bobby and Rufus both, a lot, but - not in a spin off.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-18 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried to say badly that there's really no need to pit the two concepts against each other. You can want both and there's nothing wrong with that. I hope the OP knows that.

I think Rufus would have been better suited for a spin off than Bobby. There's still a lot we never knew about him.

I've been saying for years that The Rufus an Bobby Show: The Early Years would be a great for a miniseries spinoff.
