A car. A couple family members tried to talk me into getting a new car but as I've said before, I don't care about cars. So I don't care about having the newest model or whatnot.

See I'm the opposite. I'd never buy a used vehicle if I could afford a new one. I've gotten burned way too many times before. You don't know what the previous owner did to the damn thing, what hidden problems it might have, whether or not it's been in an accident, etc. and *if* you're lucky enough to get some kind of warranty it's never as good as the warranty on a new vehicle.

Exactly. Or *didn't* do when they should have.

Yeah. Plus there's a lot of problems that won't show up on any inspection.

Like I had a car a while back where on of the belt assemblies wasn't aligned properly (and couldn't be aligned properly, it was a manufacturing defect that affected the whole goddamn engine assembly). It was just a fraction of a centimeter off, but that was enough to wear the belt out unusually fast. I had to replace the damn thing every six months when it should have lasted for years. I took it to so many mechanics, and all of them said it looked fine.

That doesn't show up on an inspection. It doesn't show up in that car's history. It's not even something you'd notice until you'd had the car for years and figured out the pattern.

Eh, I get mine from a dealer that my family has been buying cars from for years (he has sold my mom, sister, and aunt a car). So I trusted his judgement. Also, most cars have a pretty easy paper trail of accidents and such.

For me it's not about getting the latest model, it's that I don't trust people to treat their cars well.

THIS. I part time at a used car lot. You would not BELIEVE the horrible things they have to deep-clean out of their cars.

...there was one we called the murder car because it had that much probably-blood soaked into one of the seats.
