Re: Things you'd rather buy used than new

Reading this question made me realize there's basically nothing I prefer to buy used, in fact, I will go out of my way to buy pretty much anything new. I feel bad about it, in theory I'm extremely supportive of recycling and reusing. I just get grossed out by the thought of other people using my stuff before me. I know it's a horrible psychological hang-up and all in my head, but still. It's like, if my apartment is messy, at least it's my mess. Walking into someone else's messy apartment just feels more gross.

You don't do antiques, huh?

Not really. They just seem dusty and broken to me.

There's nothing like a fresh, new, shiny "Made in China" sticker.

Sorry I offended you by not liking antiques lol

No, AYRT is right, you are coming off kind of butthurt here for no good reason.

I agree to some extent.

My thing is, I care more about quality than newness. I'd rather have quality used furniture than shitty cardboard new furniture. I'd rather have quality second hand clothes than cheap-ass fast fashion new clothes. I'd rather have quality used kitchenware than cheap, shoddy new kitchenware. Etc.

But if the choice is between new quality items and used quality items, I'm pretty much always going to prefer new items. (Though furniture is one possible exception to that for me; antique furniture that's in very good condition can be really gorgeous.)
