honestly, i think i kinda ran dry on it a few years back when it stopped trying to be fun and started trying to be a Serious and Important Resource

(Anonymous) 2018-01-21 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what kids want, isn't it?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-22 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to agree, anon. The moderation is rather capricious sometimes, and it seems like the mods want some kind of breast-beating self-flagellation before they will deem thee worthy enough to be let back in.

And they will hold a five-year-old infraction against you the same as if it were yesterday, which I find incredibly asinine.

It's hard for me to really genuinely like it anymore. It has so many weird, off-putting things about it, and people take it so seriously sometimes. I think the weight of nerds being terrible nerds about stuff just capsized the whole project at some point.

Same!

I love TV Tropes, but I can easily waste three hours there.

I always check TV Tropes for a new thing I'm trying to get into.

Fuck that site. I used to love it and then I had to deal with the makers and I'm not setting my foot there again. What a bunch of lying turds.

I'm curious about the story behind this.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I fucking hate TVTropes. Especially with how they promo other people's shitty fic.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-22 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I used to be more active in a small fandom that had a small handful of good, well known fics. So naturally, when I looked on TV Tropes I checked out the fic section and... wtf. Most of them were fics I'd never heard of, and at least one or two were hilariously bad. I've never taken their fic recs seriously since.

I avoid the fic sections, but I like the rest of the site.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-22 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, yes to all of this.

My small fandom had a couple of great fics listed there, but then the jealousy of lesser known writers made them rec a lot of what turned out to be fairly mediocre/shitty fics. Recs don’t count if you’re the one reccing your own shit.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-23 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Since when do they promo anybody's fics? Anybody can make a rec and anybody can make a page for a fic.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-22 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I love TVT too! :)
