Fire is used to cook. It gives light in the darkness. Like you say, it's warmth. Even a forest fire has a positive side in that many plants and other organisms have evolved to use fire as a means of seeding, spawning, and spreading.

Honestly any fantasy story that uses the traditional four elements but puts all the evil on fire and all the glory on water when water is just as destructive annoys the fuck out of me.

as someone that lives near the ocean with a long line of ancestors that did as well - water is fucking terrifying and anyone that doesn't think its the most dangerous element is out of their mind. At least fire will go away at some point. Water is forever and it is bottomless.
