I like both. I admit that I do like having dragons that can be sidekicks or mentors to the protagonists but having to defeat a dragon (especially the ones that can get into your head) is definitely up there with the best boss battles. They're really great villains when written write because they're smart and tough. The protagonist usually has to really earn a victory.

I like them as ally and antagonist, I do prefer them to have some level of intelligence though and not just be super-dangerous animals(that can breathe fire).
