This is Mystery Men, btw.

I was about to ask. Now I'm off to check it out, thank you! :)

Thank you! I could not bring the name to mind. Such a funny movie.

I like it too. It's sometimes on the telly, and I always stop and watch it all.

I loved this movie! I thought the Shoveler's trowel main-gauche was hysterical and I loved how they had to sew their costumes out in the woods.

I remember having to down-play how much I liked it in front of my mother because she had a huge crush on Greg Kinnear at the time and definitely would not have appreciated what happens to him in the movie.

Hee hee! Greg Kinnear. :) So unexpected, and so hilarious.

It had Tom Waits, so of course it is.

I didn't much care for it.

I guess none of the characters really resonated with me. But I did love Galaxy Quest and liked Spaceballs. If you're looking for other parodies, Not Another Teen Movie is surprisingly funny (though very gross in a few scenes), Top Secret! is awesome, and Shaun of the Dead had some clever moments.

Top Secret! is a riot, I agree. I also love Galaxy Quest. Did you ever see Ice Pirates? It's from the same time period as Top Secret!.

Ice Pirates is stupidly fun. How about The Pirate Movie? So very goofy. And, of course, Blazing Saddles. I didn't recommend these because, while I very much enjoy them, Ice Pirates and The Pirate Movie are completely off the wall and sometimes that doesn't appeal. And Blazing Saddles, even though it deliberately shows racism for what it is, makes some people uncomfortable with how it goes about it. Top Secret! is also off the wall, but is pretty clever about it.

OMG, The Pirate Movie. We used to watch it back-to-back with The Pirates of Penzance for the sheer idiocy of it all. Though I have to admit - I loved the soundtrack for both of them and used songs from the Pirate Movie for fantracks for years.

Ice Pirates was one of my friends' favorite movie and she'd make us watch it as often as she could (while the rest of us were clamoring for HEAD).

Mel Brooks movies are hit and miss for me - there are some I really enjoy and some I think, "Eh." Blazing Saddles falls between the two extremes - I enjoy it but don't go out of my way to watch it (as opposed to Young Frankenstein).

Galaxy Quest is a masterpiece. Spaceballs is fun. I don't really remember NATM, maybe I should check it out again.

I really liked Shaun of the Dead until the last 10 minutes, it was an abrupt tonal shift that didn't work for me, then capped it all off with a generic happily ever after with the fat friend as a zombie pet. I liked Hot Fuzz waaay more. However SotD did have some clever moments, the record throwing scene is great.

ayrt

Yeah, I do get what you mean about Shaun of the Dead. But the record throwing was really funny. Also, the issues with the fences. And I don't know why, but the weird meet-up with the other group just stuck with me. I guess I found that sublimely absurd.

I enjoyed moments but not enough for repeat watching. I agree on all the rest of these, including the caveat for Not Another Teen Movie, I thought I was the only one that enjoyed that movie! I always skip the bathroom scene near the beginning (SO GROSS), but other than that, it's a hilarious, and the cameo at the end is the perfect touch.

This was a great movie! All those tropes come from comics in the first place, so that's why they were ripe for parody long before superhero movies became a big thing again.
