Honestly, it's a bit scary that anyone who had a bad date with somebody famous can turn around years after the fact and call it assault.

I think that's the issue with how the entire thing has been handled. While in most cases it's absolutely justified, the whole culture of guilty until proven innocent is especially dangerous in these cases, just as it was with the Everybody From Kid's TV From The 80's In Britain is Suddenly a Pedophile thing.

Quite a few innocent people got accused of it by people bandwagoning, only for those people to drop the charges later and admit to having lied.

Who in this case lied?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, we don't know because one is an anonymous source on a shitty site. Why are we believing that person? It could be literally anyone.

Well, for one thing, Ansari hasn't really said that the woman was lying or anything like that, so it's a little weird for you to come in and say it

I assumed they were talking about someone making accusations as part of the "Everybody From Kid's TV From The 80's In Britain is Suddenly a Pedophile thing" but I don't know enough about that to say if there was anyone who admitted to lying.

I'd consider constant coercion to do something sexual and ignoring boundaries a bad date, yes.

But there's a difference between a gross experience/walk of shame, and being attacked... and "Uncomfortable" is not the same as "traumatized."

No charges and no legal complaint have been filed.

I don't think that anyone, at any point, has claimed that there was any violation of the law at all.
