Re: What fandom trends do you dislike?

I find it obnoxious when fandom gets up in arms about two teenagers dating because there's maybe two or three years age difference between them. I even agree that between your average 14-year-old and average 17-year-old, there's probably some maturity difference and I wouldn't recommend it irl. But it's also hardly an abnormal, perverted, unethical occurrence. It's perfectly biologically typical for teens to be attracted to each other. No need to get up in arms about it. Especially in like... anime, where the ages are often somewhat arbitrary.

I'm sure the wank when A Wrinkle in Time hits theatres will be amazing. (Meg and Calvin are married in the third book, with a four-year age difference.)

...what? Meg and Calvin are the same age. In the book at least. Idk if they've changed the ages in the movie or something. But in the book Calvin says he's 14, and Meg's in the 9th grade, so she's almost certainly about 14 too.

On the one hand, I though Meg was in late-middle school, But they're not the same age:

“He’s a couple of grades above me, and he’s on the basketball team.”

I'm a woman. When I was...

...16 I dated an 18yo.

...17 I dated a 23yo.

...17 I dated a 14yo.

...19 I dated a 15yo.

I rarely stuck to people my age and didn't care what anyone thought of that.

So yeah, I don't get the fuss, either.

Yeah, that's weird. I find it difficult to believe it's based on real outrage and not just outrage for the sake of one-upmanship and showing off how morally upright you are. Did everyone just date within their own class in high school? It might not be a great idea but jesus, how many high school relationships are that functional seeing as how teenagers with unformed brains are involved?

This. Personally, I find the idea of *shipping* teenagers kind of gross and therefore I don't ship any (although I don't think it's gross when other people do it, especially if they are teens or young adults themselves) but I don't think it's gross and wrong for teenagers to date or be attracted to each other, whether in fiction or IRL. It's completely normal. I mean, I get that some people are late bloomers, but did no one ever feel attracted to a classmate or get a crush on a teen idol when they were in high school? Does no one else remember what that was like?
