Sorry, Just wasn't interested in that movie. I'll try and put in more effort in future.

Green bowling massacre....?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
On February 14, 1862, after receiving reports that Fort Henry on the Tennessee River and Fort Donelson on the Cumberland River had both been captured by Union forces under Ulysses S. Grant, the Confederates realized they had to withdraw from Bowling Green. They destroyed bridges across the Barren River, the railroad depot, and other important buildings that could be used by the enemy. The city was subject to disruptions and raids throughout the remainder of the war. During the summer of 1864, Union General Stephen G. Burbridge arrested 22 civilians in and around Bowling Green on a charge of treason. This incident and other harsh treatment by federal authorities led to bitterness towards the Union among Bowling Green residents and increased sympathies with the Confederacy.

Parents often want to know so many trivial, seemingly irrelevant things about their kids' lives that I am SURE when they say your coming out was important to them, they meant it, anon.

I personally get the feeling that it's not that Rowling can't write romance, but by the time romance actually happened in the books, people had had years of shipping under their belts. Theorising, reading fanfics and so on, so there was no way that all expectations were going to be met, whether a person's preferred ships happened or not. Ditto for the ending.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Every college AU I have ever read has been set at a specific university.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU op! WHERE is the fic?

I'm so glad you circled Peter and Margo. I ship them like crazy and there's so much potential for amazing fic. The pining is off the scale. They're doomed lovers. Phone sex anyone? Age/experience difference. Uniform kink. One last night together.

(AND they're both dead, so if the whole 'they're alive' thing is an issue with some of the others, it isn't with these two!)

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So, which romance do you think she wrote well, and why?

Re: Green bowling massacre....?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That’s not what a massacre is, but sure. Why not.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel much the same way!

You want to write a college/coffee shop/whatever AU, fine. But why does it always have to take place in present time, regardless of the time setting of canon and/or the ages of the characters? It bugs me.

So, adulthood in the past hundred years then.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Op, I'mtrying to be nice here... though I may not sound nice at all. But my intention are good, ok: stop caring so much about what some other people think, or ship, or whatever. Make friends who have similar views of your fav fandoms, have fun and just ignore fanon you find banal. Doing that helped me a lot!

Nope, someone else - who at the point of opening commissions last year hadn't done it for a while and afaik finished the ones she did before that without issues, so there wasn't really a reason to expect otherwise.

Re: Vent Thread

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not but I'm both pissed and also kind of glad that this isn't such a rare case, apparently.

Yeah, I guess there won't be any other choice in the end - I wanted to wait a bit more because she moved at the beginning of January and I wanted to give her the chance to get settled in, but I'll ask her next month...

Re: Why would she have to write a romance at all?

I get really annoyed that LGB people are reduced to "sex lives" when my straight co-workers have spent the last half hour talking about their children and reactions to Grammy gossip about who cheated on whom.

Bujold did it multiple times, and won multiple awards for it.

And, um, didn't she ready any of Molly Grue's parts in The Last Unicorn?

If someone in militia do this...... talk like this.

"I'm talking about how the Liberals are being conned and no longer want to really know the truth after fighting so hard using the propaganda they've been fed."

Somebody have too much time consume propaganda and someone tagged the propaganda in their own feed.

YO, are we really that stupid?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-29 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's the romance that happened, but the romance that didn't. Rowling turned me from a Harry/Ginny shipper pre book 4 to an anti-shipper. Book 5 just...stopped describing Ginny as a person, and started describing second hand accounts of the amazing things she did instead. And this is a couple Harry was actually there for. None of the couples actually seem like they like each other because Harry's so busy with his stuff he only takes notice when people fight, which is understandable, but it makes the random "romance" scattered about mostly feels negative instead of positive.

I thought it was an Islamic terrorist attack that Kelly Conway made up to justify one version of the travel ban.

It is true that the werewolf thing was intended as a metaphor for being gay (or was it aids? One of those, possibly both) in the sense that it was something that got unnecessary prejudice and had therefore to be hidden because it would ruin lupin's career. But that doesn't mean that Sirius had a crush on James. Or that lupin, who married the very female tonks and had a kid with her, was actually supposed to be gay.

This was literally the first thought after I read the secret. And then, that nineties called and they want their secret back :D
