I hate how the majority of canons won't let men and women have close friendships without turning it into a romance.

True. Personally, I'd love to see more well developed friendships (opposite sex AND same sex) both in media canon and in fic. But so often in canon, het friendships gradually turn into romance if a series runs long enough.

This was my first thought, even as someone who often ships those relationships. Male-male friendship is practically sacred in lots of canons, so boohoo, OP.

Yup.

This is an issue in a lot of canons, and hell I like shipping m/f pairs as well but I'd also love to see more m+f bffs without romance in media.

This was literally the first thought after I read the secret. And then, that nineties called and they want their secret back :D
